About the Author
Andy Young received a bachelor’s degree in Bible from Lubbock Christian University in 1993, a masters degree in Youth and Family Ministry from Abilene Christian University in 1995, a masters in Community Counseling from Texas Tech University in 1999, and a doctorate in Counselor Education from Texas Tech University in 2003. He has been a professor at Lubbock Christian University since 1996 and currently teaches in the undergraduate Behavioral Sciences Department and graduate Nursing department. He has also taught in the graduate Counseling and undergraduate Bible departments. He has worked with the Lubbock Police Department since 2000 and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office since 2008 and currently serves on the negotiating teams for both agencies. He also serves as a clinical director for the Critical Incident Stress Management Teams for the South Plains Regional Response Team, the Lubbock Police Department, and the Lubbock Fire Department. Dr. Young is a founding member and current coordinator for the Lubbock Police Department’s Victim Services Crisis Team, which has now grown to 40 members. He has many published academic articles and speaks frequently on crisis intervention, and has spoken at many state association of hostage negotiator conferences. He married his wife in 1995 and they have two young children.

Wow, I had no idea this book would have such an impact on me or captivate my attention so thoroughly. I've worked around Dr. Young for 14 years and bought the book, mostly out of curiosity and support, but have been enamored since opening.

If you want a glimpse into to heart and soul of human struggle, police work, crisis negotiation, and the daily world around you this book will be an eye opener. It contains real life stories, actual events, from the rare perspective of someone on the inside.

You can almost feel the emotion, stress, and attachment officers and counselors deal with as trying to help in tragic situations. Dr. Young is an excellent writer and his style is easy and exciting to follow.

Outstanding book! Very informative!

This book is a must for anyone that is interested in a law enforcement behind-the-scenes look. The events are eye-opening and sometimes troubling, but you can't help but develop a compassion for these crisis team members and police officers. I can't even imagine how they cope with a lot of what they see, hear and do. It gives you a better understanding of what it means to help someone pick up the pieces.

Solve font size: offer Kindle edition!

Well organized, illustrated and excellent review for graduate programs. As others have noted, font size is very small and hard to read without tiring your eyes-- especially those of us with presbyopia due to age. If publisher could retain format-- boxes, illustrations, flow diagrams, etc-- Kindle version would solve the issue since one could increase the font size. Or, if Kindle format is not possible, simply offer a larger print edition. I believe there is a market for this (and other science texts with similar issues). Is anyone at Elsevier paying attention?

The Kindle Edition is just what this textbook needed to be the perfect resource for both graduate students and educators like myself... All the good things other reviewers have said plus the convenience of a digital version that I can bring everywhere. I use the Kindle software in the notebook to project the very good figures in the classroom...

Font is too small

The paper quality of this book is poor. It will rip easily while turning pages. Font was killing my vision. It was hard to see because it was so small. By the time I'm done with this book, I will have eye problems. Contents are good and great reference for case studies.

Crappy Swatches

I love the textbook that goes with this, but the swatches are of poor quality. My teacher had to constantly bring in better fabric samples for us to cut swatches of.

Good Condition with Damaged Swatch

The price for this book was good and it was still wrapped. However when I opened it and began putting it together, a couple of the swatches were damaged and unuseable (which I'm paying for with my grade in my textiles class). The seller was great and the book arrived very quickly, and while the seller accurately described the condition of the book as "NEW", it was the responsibility of the publisher to ensure the book and accompanying materials were produced properly.

An Access Code That Had Already Been Registered

I received this in a very timely manner in very good condition. All was great until I had realized that the access code had already been registered when this was supposed to be a "new" book. The access code for the online material has practice tests and additional information to assist students outside of the classroom, so it's kind of necessary. Just be weary of who you're purchasing from.

Good start plateau.

I most surely relished the book. If you are to be studying Accounting and Finance as an auxiliary unit, this one is one of the best. It is written in an accessible style with not a little consideration for the needs of the student, yet quite a good amount of information is in there. Gowthorpe makes it easy for readers to fully grasp the fundamentals of finance and accounting concepts. It is especially useful to those with no or little formal training in finance, budgeting or investment.
