About the Author
A Professor of Management at the University of California-Davis, Professor Maher previously taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and the University of Washington. He also worked on the audit staff at Arthur Andersen & Co. and was a self-employed financial consultant for small -businesses. He received his BBA from Gonzaga University (which named him Distinguished Alumnus in 1989), and his MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Washington, and earned the CPA from the state of Washington. Professor Maher is president of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association, and has served on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Management Accounting Research, and Management Accounting. Co-author of two leading textbooks, Principles of Accounting and Managerial Accounting, Maher has co-authored several additional books and monographs, including Internal Controls in U.S. Corporations and Management Incentive Compensation Plans, and published articles in many journals, including Management Accounting, The Journal of Accountancy, The Accounting Review, The Journal of Accounting Research, Financial Executive, and The Wall Street Journal. For his research on internal controls, Maher was awarded the American Accounting Association's Competitive Manuscript Award and the AICPA Notable Contribution to Literature Award. He has also received the award for the Outstanding Tax Manuscript, and from the students at the University of California's Graduate School of Management, he has received the Annual Outstanding Teacher Award three times and a special award for outstanding service twice

HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ACCOUNTANTS BUT STAY AWAY FROM MODTEXTBOOKS BECAUSE THEY ARE SCAMMERS

This book is pretty decent and helped me a lot in my ACCY121 Cost accounting class. I highly recommend this book because the examples and their references to Excel are very helpful in the learning process. The reading starts a little slow but if you are purchasing this book because your an accounting major then you have to struggle through it. This text definitely is helpful and a valuable investment. The only downside was that my professor didn't utilize the text as much and I felt that was a huge mistake on his part. This book helped me with my lessons tutoring other students.
I highly recommend purchasing this book but not from vendor ModTextbooks as I purchased a new book and they gave me a book that was clearly used. I am very disappointed in how they conducted this transaction with me. If I order a soda I don't want water and the same applies to if I purchase a new book I better get a new one not some old used one.

I hate this book.

This book is too wordy...redundant really. I was bored to death trying to read it for class. I felt like the authors just want students to have busy work In reading the book. I wouldn't recommend it as a paper weight.

I feel the authors are more concerned with showing off ...

I feel the authors are more concerned with showing off their big vocabularies (or ability to use a thesaurus) than aiding the student in grasping the concepts. Also, I don't believe that giving the ultra-fine details of a particular production process will assist in learning the basic concepts of cost accounting.
I honestly feel that the authors intentionally made this book hard to read and the concepts as hard to perceive.
Remember the basic rule for teaching...K.I.S.S.
